Obituary for Lyndell "Tudy" Bush (Grawey)

Lyndell “Tudy” (Grawey) Bush, 85, of Simsbury, CT, wife of the late William “Bill” C. Bush, died Monday, February 13, 2017.

Tudy was born in Peoria, IL on July 3, 1931 to “Fritz” and Alice Grawey, raised in Peoria, and graduated from Academy of Our Lady High School. She returned to Peoria after graduating from Marycrest College in Davenport, IA with a B.A. degree, majoring in Sociology. While back in Peoria, she earned a Teaching Certificate at Bradley University and started teaching at a local elementary school. She lived in Peoria until her marriage to Bill Bush on February 2, 1957. Through several relocations Tudy, Bill and their 3 children kids arrived in Bloomfield, CT in 1965 and later moved to Simsbury, CT. After a brief move to Michigan, Tudy and Bill, now with 4 children, happily returned to West Simsbury in 1975 until retiring to the Hideaway community in Fort Myers, FL in 1994. Family and friends led Tudy back to Simsbury in 2005, where she resided at Hopmeadow Place prior to her death from a brief illness.

Tudy’s hobbies and work have been varied; dancing, singing, Simsbury Encore & Woman’s Club, golf, gardening, First Wednesday Bridge Club, travel, teaching, and a later career in Simsbury real estate. Her license plate, “Music Makes me Smile”, captures her favorite activity, singing in the St. Catherine’s church choir, singing with the Intonations group at Hopmeadow Place, and frequent road trips with friends for concerts at Tanglewood and Hartford Symphony. Tudy rarely missed a social event and loved spending time with friends and family.

She was preceded in death by Bill Bush. She took great pride in her family and is survived by her four children: Sally and her husband Pete Wiese of Colleyville, TX, Brad and his wife Sue of Parma, OH, Dave and his wife Barbara of Simsbury, CT, and Jeff and his wife Lesley of Ft Worth, TX. Also, “Grammy” has eleven surviving grandchildren; James, Thomas, Megan, Ryan, Will, Mackensie, Jennifer, Brandon, Justin, Bradford, and Madison.

Friends may call at Vincent’s Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, from 5pm to 7pm on Friday February 17, 2017.A funeral mass will be at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Road, West Simsbury, at 11am on Saturday February 18, 2017.
