Obituary for Anne M. Lewis

Anne H. Lewis, 80, of Avon, formerly of Hartford and Farmington, died peacefully on March 18, 2017. Born on July 14, 1936 in Hartford, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Higgins and Marguerite Cameron. She attended Hartford High School, Class of 1954, Class Salutatorian, and was a graduate of the University of Connecticut (B.A.), Class of 1971, and Saint Joseph College (M.A.), Class of 1982. On August 13, 1981, she married Edward B. "Ted" Lewis, III who predeceased her on February 15, 2002. Prior to her death, Mrs. Lewis operated the Anne Higgins School of Dance located at the Lyric Hall on Park Street in Hartford where she taught tap and ballet. She also was a lover of books, Irish music, dogs, and birds. She is survived by a step-daughter and step-son-in-law, Catherine E. and Michael Force, of Clarkesville, Georgia, a brother in-law and sister-in-law, Alfred and Corrina Lewis, of Warwick, New York, two step-grandchildren, Kimberly and Michael Force, both of Atlanta, Georgia, a nephew, James Lewis, of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and a niece, Cynthia Lewis, of New York City, New York. The Lewis family gratefully acknowledges Patricia Fisher for her loving care as Anne's companion. No calling hours. A graveside funeral service and burial will be on Wednesday, March 29 at 12 noon in Greenwood Cemetery, Avon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Connecticut Humane Society, 701 Russell Road, Newington, CT 06111.
