Obituary for Josee H. Deltenre

Josee H. Deltenre
Cordule Josee Deltenre, 93, of East Granby, wife of the late Henri Jean Deltenre, died Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at her home. She was born on "Bastille Day", July 14,1923 in Brussels, Belgium, daughter of the late Eugene and Jeanne (Jonau) Herwegh and had lived in East Granby for the past 64 years. She and her husband lived through the German Occupation of Belgium during WWII. She worked as a seamstress before immigrating to the US in 1953.
With her husband & young son they sailed on the Maasdam through Ellis Island for a new life in America.
She & her husband initially worked as domestics for the Kilborne family of Orkil farms in Simsbury, now known as Simsbury Farms.
She then worked as a seamstress for 2 years at Lord & Talyor in West Hartford. Mrs. Deltenre started her career at "Mother Aetna"
for 46 years prior to her retirement in 2003, at the age of 80, where she made many wonderful friendships over the years.
She was a translator for the French Ice Skating team during the US Nationals in Hartford, and made a flag for the Aetna World Cup which was hung in the Hartford Civic Center for many years.
Josee enjoyed gardening, yoga classes at the Aetna, cooking french cuisine and sewing her own clothing and drapes along with being a member of the Tumbleweeds Line Dancing group & French Club.
She lived for her children and grandchildren, and was able to see the recent arrival of her two Great grandsons.

She is survived by her two sons, Roland Deltenre of Simbury and Alain Deltenre and his wife Janet of East Granby; her grandchildren, Marc Deltenre of East Granby, Matthew Deltenre and his wife Piper of Old Lyme and Renee Narducci and her husband Colin of North Canton; her great grandchildren, Logan Deltenre of Old Lyme and Toby Narducci of North Canton and many nieces and nephews, both here in the US and abroad. Special thanks to Nora Alikulova, who took wonderful care of Josee for the past two years in her home.

Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury in Monday, April 24th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Graveside service will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, April 25th at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Tariffville.
