Obituary for David McLean-Shinaman

David Keith McLean-Shinaman, 24, of Tariffville, Connecticut, the beloved son of Keith C. and Carol A. McLean-Shinaman, died Saturday, March 3, 2018. He was born on December 23, 1993 in Manila, Philippines and was a life-long resident of Tariffville. David was a graduate of Simsbury High School’s Class of 2011, where he served on the Junior and Senior Student Council and was a member of the Varsity Soccer, Hockey and Track teams. He went on to attend Merrimack College and was a graduate of Bryant University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. While at Bryant, David was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity, serving on its Executive Board and as Treasurer. Since graduating, David has worked as a Treasury Analyst at United Technologies Corporation in Farmington, Connecticut. He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Simsbury, Connecticut.
His family and friends will remember David for his sharp wit, warm smile and fun-loving nature. He cared deeply about others and was a loyal son, brother, uncle and friend. David enjoyed numerous activities with his many friends including taking road trips, attending festivals and concerts, and playing cooperative games online. With his family, David loved skiing from a young age, as well as swimming, reading, creative writing and endless clever and good-natured joking. Athletics were also an important part of David’s life. He earned a black belt in karate, played and loved both soccer and hockey and was an avid supporter of Arsenal Football Club.
In addition to his loving parents, he is survived by: his four siblings; Eric C. Shinaman and his wife Laurie of Simsbury, Connecticut, Jeffrey E. McLean-Shinaman of Norwich, Connecticut, Liezl A. McLean-Shinaman of Westfield, Massachusetts, Carolyn A. McLean-Shinaman of Simsbury, his two nieces; Kayla A. Shinaman and Harper G. Shinaman of Simsbury, two Godmothers; Margo Kilbon of Tariffville and Laurie St. Peter of Avon, Connecticut, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, Connecticut, on Friday, March 9th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. All are also welcome at the memorial service to celebrate David’s life, which will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 10th at the First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in David’s name to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org) or similar organization to combat suicide.
