Obituary for Kevin Ross Sohn

Kevin Ross Sohn
Kevin Ross Sohn, 60, of Simsbury, beloved son of the late Eunice and Alvin Sohn, passed away unexpectedly while playing golf on vacation in Montana on July 28, 2018. Kevin was born on April 22,1958 in Norwich and graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1976. While earning his undergraduate degree at Springfield College he played one year of football and three years of lacrosse. He then attended University of New Haven to acquire his master's degree in Public Health Administration. He started working at Healthcare Technology in 1997 and held a title of Senior Sales Executive.

Kevin is survived by his cherished wife Sheila Prats and their son Daniel Sohn, his sons Joshua Sohn (Jumi) of Saudi Arabia and Colin Sohn (Heather) of Nantucket, MA and their mother Cheryl Vincent. In addition to his sons, Kevin is survived by his siblings Gary Sohn (Vicky) of Preston and Marcia Stollman (Carey) of Colchester, CT. Also, Sheila's parents, Maria Serrano and Juan Prats Sr. and siblings Juan Prats (Talyn) and Carol Prats from Florida. Kevin was a loving uncle to Kaitlin Sohn (Michael), Jason Stollman (Ashley), Joshua and Kyle Gonzalez, Joel Alvarez, Katlyn Tabor and also leaves behind many caring family members and friends.

Kevin was a constant source of joy, laughter, and his zest for life was contagious. He was best known for his warmth, compassion, generosity, and ability to make people laugh. He was a genuine, happy, kind hearted soul who devoted himself to his family and friends. Not only was he the life of the party, but he could also lend heartfelt ears and nonjudgmental guidance. As his longtime friend and fellow coach, Jim Meehan expressed, “We will miss his wonderful spirit and life force. He was a great friend to many with a warm and embracing personality.”

Kevin was a huge influence in the Simsbury youth athletic community and coached for the greater part of two decades. He started coaching Simsbury Little league and Simsbury YMCA youth basketball in 1992 with his eldest son Joshua, and most notably was the head coach for the 1998 Simsbury Little League All Star state champions and 2000 Simsbury Babe Ruth All Star state champions. During, and after this time he assisted with his second son Colin’s youth baseball and basketball programs from 1995-2002. After a short break he was blessed with an opportunity to continue doing what he loved best and coached his youngest son Dan’s youth baseball team in 2005 and youth basketball and football teams in 2007. Being an experienced and successful coach, he was well known and respected among players and fellow coaches.

The family will receive friends at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury of Friday, August 3rd from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Service and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make contributions to a gofundme.com/kevin-sohn for a memorial in recognition of his dedication and love for coaching.
