Obituary for Robert O. "Bob" Neighbours Jr.

Robert O. “Bob” Neighbours, Jr., 68, of Hopmeadow Street, Weatogue, beloved husband of Beverly J. (Glidden) Neighbours, died Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at his home. He was born June 13, 1942 in East Orange, NJ, son of the late Robert O. Neighbours, Sr. and the late Monica Dabczynski Neighbours. Bob was a graduate of the University of Hartford where he received his Bachelors Degree. He was a Programmer/Analyst in the Insurance Industry for many years prior to his retirement. Bob was a licensed pilot, a member of the Simsbury Fish and Game Club and enjoyed spending time at his summer home in Moultonborough, NH where he was an active member in the Historical Society. People loved to hear Bob’s stories that he told with great enthusiasm and animation. He had accomplished a great deal in his life and did so with great joy and a sense of humor. Bob and his wife built a log home in New Hampshire from the ground up doing all the work themselves. He loved his many guitars and played them with gusto. He loved to cook and eat good food, work with wood and wrought iron, captain his boat on Lake Winnipesaukee, and paddle his kayak on Lee’s Pond while fishing. Bob loved hosting summer and Thanksgiving visits with his entire family in New Hampshire. He loved to travel, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his loving wife, Bev. Besides his wife of 28 years, he is survived by his son, Robert O. Neighbours, III, and his fiancée Erin Flynn of Glastonbury; his daughter, Andrea D. Neighbours and husband Andrew Kopplin of Baton Rouge, LA; his sister, Carol Gray of Virginia Beach, VA; two brothers-in-law, Alan Glidden and wife June of Wallingford and Brian Glidden of Meriden; two sisters-in-law, Carol Smith and husband Steve of Knoxville, TN and Linda Levitsky and husband Steve of Middletown; five grandchildren, Robert O Neighbours, IV and Taylor S. Neighbours and their mother Sarah Neighbours, Zachary Kopplin, Lila Kopplin, and Lilith Schoenberg; six nephews, three nieces, two great nieces, two great nephews and several cousins. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, Sunday, November 14th, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral will be Monday, November 15th, 10:00 AM at the funeral home.
