Harold H. Erickson, Jr., 88, of Collinsville, beloved husband of the late Eleanor (Zega) Erickson, died Tuesday, (August 13, 2013) at his home with his family by his side. He was born March 29, 1925 in Hartford, son of the late Henry Harold and Minna (Dobrick) Erickson and had lived at his home in Collinsville his whole life. Harold was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps 8th Air Force Division having flown 36 missions over Germany as a Radio Operator on B-17s during World War II. Mr. Erickson was a precision machine scraper for Hartford Specialty for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Collinsville, the Knights of Columbus Uncas Council #32 in Unionville and was a lifetime member of the VFW. Harold enjoyed polka dancing, hunting, fishing and traveling the world, but farming was his true passion in life. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter, Kathleen Erickson of Collinsville; his son, Henry Erickson and his wife Amalia of Warren, VT; two granddaughters, Alice Erickson and her partner Joe Burl and Anne Erickson; three great-grandchildren, Rowan, Kieran and Genevieve; his sister, Barbara E. Pfau and several nieces, nephews, close friends and neighbors. Besides his loving wife of 64 years, Harold was predeceased by his brother, Allen "Bud" Erickson.
Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton on Friday, August 16th from 4-6 p.m. Funeral will be Saturday, August 17th, 10:15 a.m. from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church in Collinsville. Burial with military honors will follow in Village Cemetery in Collinsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canton Food Bank, P.O. Box 374, Collinsville, CT 06022.
