Obituary for William Charles "Bill" Engelke

William Charles Engelke, 76, of Deer Park Road, Weatogue, beloved husband of Gloria (Garrett) Engelke, died Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington. He was born June 30, 1938 in Hartford son of the late Max William and Emily (Hall) Engelke and had lived in Weatogue all of his life. Mr. Engelke was a Master Auto and Truck Technician for 57 years prior to his retirement. He was also a towing and recovery operator and provided invaluable services to the Town of Simsbury and others. He was an honorary member of the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Department and past member of the Simsbury Auxiliary Police Department and Simsbury Fish and Game Club. In addition to hunting and fishing, Bill enjoyed NASCAR and his beloved cats and was an enthusiast of antique cars and antique Farmall tractors. Besides his loving wife of 54 years, he is survived by his daughter, Donna Beliveau of Canton; his son, William C. Engelke, Jr. of Weatogue; and his sister, Elna Godburn. Friends may call at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Monday, September 8th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral service will be at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 9th at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
