Obituary for Paul Leslie Emley Jr.

Paul Leslie Emley, age 92, beloved husband of sixty-one years to Eunice (Nevala) Emley, passed away on April 25th at his home in Simsbury, CT with his family by his side. Paul was born in Detroit, MI, the son of the late Paul and Louna Mae (Martin) Emley. He was a graduate of Cooley High School in Detroit and served in the US Army for four years during WWII. He returned from his tour of duty and attended Michigan State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business. Upon graduation, Paul worked for Aetna Life & Casualty where he was an auditor for 34 years, the last 13 years at the corporate offices in Hartford, CT. Paul was a huge sports fan, always supporting the Michigan State Spartans. He was also a longtime supporter of Simsbury High School athletics. He particularly enjoyed attending Simsbury High hockey games, where the team acknowledged him as a super fan. He was an avid traveler, often attending many professional tennis tournaments throughout North America. He took great pleasure in his annual visit to New York to attend the US Open Tennis Tournament. He was also an active member of the Lions Club for many years. In addition to his wife Eunice, Paul is survived by his children, Sharon Allen and her husband Michael of Summerville, SC, Michael Emley and his wife Nancy of Pike, NH, and Mark Emley and his wife Karen of Ithaca, NY; grandchildren Jason (Andrea) Earley, Kevin Earley, Christopher Emley, Katherine Emley, and Roderick Emley; great grandchildren Emily Gosselin and Austin Earley, and several loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Louise Coman and Nancy Kierzek and several brothers-in-law. The Emley family would like to acknowledge and thank the Hospice Program of Farmington Valley Visiting Nurse Association, Inc. for making the last stage of Paul’s life comfortable. Family and friends may gather with his family during calling hours on Thursday, April 30th, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT.
