Obituary for Samantha Jeanne Sikorski

Samantha "Sami" Jeanne Sikorski, 24, beloved daughter of John and Kathleen and sister of Max Sikorski, lost a courageous battle with addiction Friday, March 25, 2016. Sami had an adventurous and fearless spirit that took her to three continents. She repelled the cliffs of New Zealand and snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. She visited the Palace of Seville and bought her brother a sword in Toledo, Spain. She hiked the Great Wall near Beijing, visited the Terra Cotta Soldiers in Xian and enjoyed the World Expo in Shanghai, China. She was a voracious reader and grew up with Harry Potter, finding great joy in attending the midnight releases as each new book and movie came out. She was an advocate for environmental issues and was a founding resident of the Eco-House community living program at the University of Connecticut. While at UConn, she excelled at mathematics and biology. She was a kind and caring person, always there for a friend in need. Her silly sense of humor and sparkling blue eyes brought a smile to her grandfather's face whenever he saw her. Her "practice" grandparents, Pat and Vickie Cavanaugh loved her with all their hearts. Her lifelong friend Rachelle Robinson stood by her side through good and bad. Her dear "auntie" Laurie Laube loved her dearly since the day she was born and treated her as a third to her own set of twins. We can find no words to express the depth of our loss and can only hope that the joyful memories we have will someday bring us peace. Besides her parents and brother, she is survived by nineteen aunts and uncles and thirty-five cousins. She was predeceased by her grandparents Grace and Harry Mulliken, Steven and Jeanne Sikorski and Aunt Joanne Dubois. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 1st, at the First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Memorial donations may be made to the Institute of Living, 200 Retreat Avenue, Hartford CT 06106. The Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury is caring for the arrangements.
