Obituary for Avis R. Edwards (Rogers)

Avis Rogers Edwards of Wallingford, and formerly of Simsbury, left this life peacefully on Sunday, July 31, 2016. She was born in Willimantic on July 26, 1921 and was the daughter of Milton Henry Rogers and Ruth Neal Sweetland. She leaves her daughter, Dorenda B. Nolte and son-in-law William of Clermont, FL and Goshen, her son Alan L. Bolin of Pittsfield, MA, her son Gary A. Bolin and daughter-in-law Betty Jo of Natick, MA. Avis leaves three grandsons, Walker and Hunter Bolin and Christian Nolte and a stepdaughter, Betsy G. Pratt of Canton. She also leaves her brother, Sanford Scott, Jr. of Fort Myers, FL. She was predeceased by her husbands, Alton R. Bolin and Stanley H. Edwards as well as her brother M. Neal Rogers and two sisters, Bessie Ritter and Betty Brewer. Avis was the Postmaster of the Tariffville Post Office from 1970 to 1987. Additionally, she had been Worthy Matron of Hesper Chapter 71 of the Order of the Eastern Star in Simsbury and a member of the Abigail Phelps Chapter of the D.A.R. She also was the head of the Alter Guild at Trinity Episcopal Church in Tariffville. Avis enjoyed traveling, doing needlework, canning, baking and spending time with her family. She was also a staunch supporter of the organizations she belonged to in Simsbury and Tariffville. The family would like to thank the nurses and social workers at the Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford, CT for their extraordinary care and support for Mom during these last 2 years. There will be calling hours for Avis at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 4th. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 5th at Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Church Street in Tariffville. Burial will follow in The Simsbury Cemetery.
