Catherine Mary (Shaw) Tomasello, age 90, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2018. Born in Matawan, New Jersey, Kay was a longtime resident of Simsbury, CT and Palm City, FL. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and Holy Redeemer Church respectively. She raised six children with the love of her life, Vincent, with whom she spent 68 wonderful years. Kay was an avid and accomplished contract bridge player and loved to golf, travel and entertain. Nana Kay, as her nine grandchildren and three great grandchildren lovingly called her, delighted in being surrounded by family. Kay volunteered at the local nursing home, Simsbury Visiting Nurses Association, St. Mary’s Church and FAVARH. Kay shared her rich and full life with her vibrant lifelong friends leaving a trail of laughter and fond memories.
Kay is predeceased by her two brothers James and David Shaw and her granddaughter Jennifer Kline. Left to remember Kay’s love are her loving husband, sister Joan Cross and six children, Johanna (John) Stanko, Kathy (Dean) McGregor, Jane (Gerard) Toner, Mark (Faye) Tomasello, Carol (Arthur) Sanfilippo and James Tomasello. The Tomasello family would like to extend their gratitude to Valerie Ackerly and Gloria Jones for their loving care toward Kay. We are also thankful for the care she received by the staff at The Suffield House.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, January 30th, 10 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Burial will follow at the Simsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s School, 946 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury, CT 06070.
