Obituary for Melita O'Toole Gibbons

Melita O'Toole-Gibbons, 88, of Simsbury, wife of the late Andrew Ladd Gibbons, died Monday, May 14, 2018 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. She was born October 1, 1929 in Hartford, daughter of the late Frederick D. and Ann (Coughlin) Wells and had made Simsbury her home for the past 60 years. Melita was a Pension Analyst at Cigna for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Simsbury. Melita enjoyed a very full life that encompassed her family, friends, and neighbors, her artistic creations, oil painting, baking of pies, cakes and cookies. She loved gardening, reading, traveling, especially vacations at the beach, and was a devoted fan of the UCONN Womens Basketball Team and the Boston Red Sox.
She is survived by her four sons, Jeffrey O'Toole and his wife Joy, Matthew O'Toole, Thomas O'Toole and his wife Amy Donovan, James O'Toole and Kathleen DeMaria; her brother, Frederick M. Wells; her grandchildren, Brooke O'Toole-Ruff and her husband Frank Ruff, Conor O'Toole, and Elanna Reavill-O'Toole; her great grandchildren, Eloise and Izzy Ruff and her step children, Shelley Gibbons and Ladd Gibbons.
There are no calling hours. A Celebratory Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at St. Mary's Church, 946 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, with reception immediately following to be announced. Burial will be private.
