I'm deeply saddened by the passing of Susie - actually I alternate between sadness and shock. I've been reviewing in my head the experiences we shared over the years - Syracuse, Amsterdam, DC and even her visit to me in St. Croix. They were long ago - but somehow just yesterday. Wonderful times. Distance and time kept us away. A few years ago we reconnected in DC with Niki. It was great to get together. It was amazing that Susie flew in just for lunch! Sometimes it happens when you get together with certain people that the connections are still there even when time and space have separated you - this was one of those moments. It's a fabulous feeling - and it doesn't happen with everyone, only with those who you feel a deep simpatico. We had great plans - we were going to meet up for a week on St. Croix or again somewhere in the states. And actually, my husband and I were planning to drive in early September from New York to Boston and planned on calling and stopping by on our way. Unfortunately, Hurricane Irma was heading our way and we had to hurry back home to board up.
I think I will always regret those missed opportunities - but never regret having had Susie as a friend. Her warmth, caring, her ability to listen, her smile - and of course her boundless energy will be missed but will always remain in my heart.
My condolences to Tom and the rest of Susie's family
Sending love and hugs,
Ellie
