Obituary for Muriel Edith Gardner (Harrop)

Muriel Edith (Harrop) Gardner, 90, of Tariffville, wife of the late Reverend Thomas Lockwood Gardner, Sr. died peacefully with her family by her side Monday, September 10, 2018 at Duncaster in Bloomfield. She was born August 26, 1928 in Providence, Rhode Island, daughter of the late Harold and Muriel (Hopkins) Harrop and had lived in Pawtucket, RI, Bloomfield and East Granby CT prior to moving to Tariffville 35 years ago. Mrs. Gardner was an Administrative Assistant at the University of Hartford for many years prior to her retirement. She was a long time member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Tariffville where she volunteered to serve the parish in many roles. She cherished traveling with the Weekapaug Ladies Group, watching the birds from her front window, singing in the Church choir, and spending time with her family and friends on the beaches of Rhode Island. Above all, her greatest joy was being with her family; listening, loving and laughing.

She is survived by one daughter and two sons; Robin Gardner and her wife Jennifer Nichols of Coventry, Thomas L. Gardner, Jr. and his wife Linda of Belle Meade, NJ, Jonathan Gardner and his wife Carolann of Glastonbury, her sister-in-law, Ginou Harrop of France; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Mark and Peter Gardner and her brother, John Harrop.

There are no calling hours. A funeral service will be celebrated at 10:00 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 11 Church Street in Tariffville on Wednesday, September 19th. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery in East Granby. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B,Southington, CT 06489.
