Obituary for Victor N. Daley

Victor N. Daley passed away peacefully at home, in Simsbury, on October 19, 2018. He was surrounded and comforted by his wife of 52 years, Mary Lou, and their loving family. A devoted husband, loving son, father, grandfather and brother, he was fiercely proud of each family member, and loved them deeply. Born on August 9, 1943 in Hartford, to Harold F. and Anita Giorgetti Daley, he was raised in the Forestville section of Bristol. After graduating from Providence College in Providence R.I., he entered the U.S . Army; completed flight school; and served with, distinction as an Army Aviator in Vietnam. Captain Daley, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, Six Air Medals, Two Army Commendation Medals, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, with Palm, among various other decorations. During his short Army career, he and Mary Lou (Colby) of Simsbury were married and began what Vic would always call the ‘luckiest years of my life’. He treasured his life with Mary Lou as they moved around the country and raised three sons. He eventually was blessed with the “best gig ever” being Pops to eight, incredible grandchildren.
He received his Masters degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago and was graduated from Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program. Upon leaving the military, Vic entered the Insurance Industry where his career would span over four decades. Starting as a trainee in Administrative Management, he became an industry leader, first heading the Human Resources Departments, and later as Chief Administrative Officer in two Fortune 500 companies. During these years, Vic served on the Board of Visitors at both Wake Forest University, Schools of Business and The University of North Carolina, Charlotte. He later held a similar role at his alma mater, Providence College. He was also was a member of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra and Des Moines Symphony Boards of Directors and a National Trustee of the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society of America.
In addition to Mary Lou, he is survived by: his son Patrick and wife Kathryn and their children Cooper, Joshua and Anna of Summit, NJ; his son Kevin and wife Tracey and their children Caroline, Colby and Carter of Manhattan Beach, CA, and his son Christopher and wife Amy and their girls, Abigail and Mary of Cumberland, RI and Vic’s two brothers, Gerald and Christopher, and their wives as well as his nephews, niece and numerous cousins also survive his passing.
A wake will be held at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Monday, Oct. 22nd from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Funeral will be Tuesday, Oct. 23rd, 9:15 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, to be celebrated at 10:00 AM at St Mary’s Church in Simsbury, followed by interment with full military honors at Simsbury Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to “The Campus Connection” at St. Mary’s Church, 942 Hopmeadow St. Simsbury, CT, where Vic worshipped and served for many years as a member of the parish’s Finance Council.
