Obituary for Norman C. Southergill

Norman C. "Unk" Southergill, 94, of Farmington, beloved husband of Lucy (Welles) Southergill, died Friday, November 30, 2018 at Touchpoints of Farmington. He was born June 29, 1924 in Manchester, son of Robert Thomas and Clara (Taft) Southergill and had lived in Collinsville and then Winsted on Highland Lake for many years. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army in the 150th Combat Engineer Battalion and had published a book of his WWII memories which is available on Amazon "A Combat Engineer Remembers". Mr. Southergill was the Owner and President of Norm’s Tire Store in Avon for many years. He was a member of the Collinsville Congregational Church where he
had been a Deacon and Youth Group Leader, a member and past Master of the Wapping Grange #30, past President of the CT Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association, active member and past President of
the New England Tire Dealers and Retreaders Association, a member of the Avon Gildo Consolini VFW Post #3272, was one of the founders of the Avon Sea Urchins Dive Club and was the Founder and
First President of the Avon Chamber of Commerce. Norm enjoyed traveling, playing golf, keeping up with current events, scuba diving, waterskiing, water volleyball, dancing. and singing.

In addition to his loving wife of 72 years, Lucy, he is survived by his daughter, Noreen Watson and her husband Charlie of Barkhamsted; his son, Jerry Southergill and wife Ellen of Springfield, TN; his grandchildren, Wendy Moores and husband Steve of Colchester, John Watson and wife Erin of Cheshire, Richard Watson of Colorado Springs, CO, Bryan Southergill and wife Grace of Hong Kong, Adam Southergill and wife Catherine of Atkinson, NH, John Southergill and wife Meredith of S. Deerfield, MA and Travis Southergill and wife Nikki of Franklin, TN; his great grandchildren, Ethan and Ryan Moores (Wendy) , Ella, Jack and Delaney Watson (John Watson), Danny and Tommy Watson (Richard), Lucy E and Stella Southergill (Adam), Ainsley and Eleanor Southergill (John Southergill), Isabel, Wyatt and Liam Southergill(Bryan) and Kylan and Jacey Southergill (Travis) as well as his special niece, Charlene Southergill. He was predeceased by his infant brother, George and his older brothers, Lewis, Wilbur and Robert.
There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, December 28th at the Collinsville Congregational Church, 7 South Street in Collinsville. Burial with military honors will follow in Center Cemetery in South Windsor. Donations in Norm’s memory may be made to the Gildo Consolini VFW Post #3272, P.O.
