Obituary for William A. Bristol Sr.

William A. “Bill” “Gramps” Bristol, Sr., 94, of Canton, husband of the late Marjorie (Case) Bristol, died Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Cherry Brook Health Care Center. He was born September 16, 1924 in Hartford, son of the late Stuart and Margaret (Johnson) Bristol and had been a life long resident of Canton. Bill was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy, traveling extensively around the world. The Bristol Family owned and operated the Chevrolet Dealership and Bristol’s Garage, originally in Collinsville and later in Canton, for his entire adult life, prior to his retirement. After retirement he opened a small engine repair service, where he spent his days working on lawn mowers, leaf blowers, chain saws, snow blowers, etc. He loved working on anything that had a motor. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Canton Center and a member of the Elks Club. Bill enjoyed spending time in the summer months at Old Kelsey Point Beach in Westbrook Connecticut. There he very much enjoyed lobstering, which he became very good at.

He is survived by a daughter, Barbara LaFrancois and three sons, William A. Bristol, Jr. and his wife, Dorrie, Steven Bristol and his wife Karen and Thomas Bristol and his wife Beth, all of Canton; 11 grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and many nieces and a nephew. Also survived by sister in laws Frances Case and Joyce Bristol. He was predeceased by his brother, Arthur Bristol.
We want to thank the entire staff at Cherry Brook Health Care Center for the love and care they provided for our father.

A graveside service will be held in the spring for both Bill and Marge. Memorial donations may be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, NMCRS.org. The Vincent Funeral Home of Canton is caring for the arrangements. Please visit Bill’s Book of Memories at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online tributes.
