Obituary for Jane Zurinskas (Green)
Jane Marie Zurinskas, 82, of Simsbury, CT, passed away on June 5, 2019 with family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Reginald Zurinskas.
Jane was born in Danbury, CT, to Estelle and Daniel Green on February 7, 1937. She was a 1954 graduate of Danbury High School and Waterbury Hospital School of Nursing in 1957 where she was honored with the “best bedside manner” award. She lived in New York City while working at the New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Hospital as a trauma nurse and then Long Beach, CA working for the VA Hospital. Jane worked as a geriatric nursing supervisor at the Wintonbury Manor in Bloomfield, CT. She finished her nursing career working part time with the Farmington Valley VNA. She was a long-time resident of Simsbury, CT and a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church. Jane volunteered her time at The Second Chance Shop, and ran Granny’s Attic for many years for her church. Jane had a passion for tag sales and antique shops transforming her house into a beautiful home. A highlight for Jane was sailing to Europe on the Queen Mary. She loved all things Irish and English especially watching shows on on PBS.
A devoted mother to her three children and their spouses, Jane especially loved her grandchildren and her role as “Nana.” She loved watching her grandsons play hockey, was an expert shopper, and loved music. Known as a kind and trusted confidant, her warm smile, sharp wit, and gentle demeanor would light up a room. Her faith, dignity, grace, and overall selfless energy personified Jane’s compassion in always putting others first. She was truly beautiful inside and out.
In addition to her parents, Jane is preceded in death by her two brothers, Daniel Green and Jack Green.
Jane’s true life’s work was her family. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Reginald, their three children, Ron Zurinskas and his wife Jenny of Charlotte, NC; Lauren Rosenfeld and her husband Daniel of Avon, CT; and Leslie Mather and her husband, Todd of Avon, CT; her sisters, Nancy Sheriden, of Providence, RI and Margaret (Peggy) Billings of Danbury, CT and sister in law Rosalie Green. Jane will be deeply missed by her treasured grandchildren, Quinton, Reid, Jack, Samantha, Hannah, and Julian.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 18th at St. Mary’s Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, CT. Burial will follow in the Simsbury Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Vincent Funeral Home of Simsbury, CT. Memorials donations may be made to WJMJ Radio (15 Peach Orchard Rd Prospect, CT 06712).
