Obituary for Marilyn Joyce Burton

Marilyn Joyce (Coor) Burton, 90, of Duncaster in Bloomfield, CT, beloved wife of Burton E. Burton, died peacefully Wednesday, August 21, 2019. She was born January 28, 1929 in Jerome, AZ, an old copper mining town. She was the daughter of the late Laudric Edison and Catherine Madeline (Hammond) Coor. She was raised in Jerome before attending Arizona State University where she met her husband. They married and moved to Connecticut in 1950 where she settled in West Hartford for 40 years prior to splitting her time between Scottsdale, AZ and New London, NH. Mrs. Burton was a longtime member of the Hartford Tennis Club, and the Terravita and Baker Hill Golf Clubs. Marilyn also enjoyed bridge, skiing, square dancing, bowling, and knitting. She loved to travel having visited over 30 countries. Her greatest joy was spending time with family.

In addition to her loving husband of 70 years, she is survived by her daughters, Leslie Lovett of West Hartford, CT and Janice Fogarty of Spencer, MA; her sons, Thomas Burton and wife Doreen of Scottsdale, AZ, Steven Burton and wife Pamela of Simsbury, CT, Douglas Burton and wife Donna of Avon and John Burton and wife Karen of Falmouth, MA; sisters-in-law, Judy Dunne and Anne Edwards; 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Duane Coor.

Funeral service will be held at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury, CT on Monday, August 26th at 10:00 AM. The burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in West Hartford, CT. A reception will follow at 1pm at Duncaster in Bloomfield, CT.
