Obituary for Benjamin F. Love Sr.

Benjamin F. Love Sr, 88, of Weatogue, beloved husband of Jean D. (Platt) Love, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3, 2020. He was born September 5, 1931 in Edgewood, MD, son of the late Calvert and Lillian (Mantila) Love. Ben was a kind and gentle soul devoted to his wife and family. He and Jean met in Maryland, married on February 8, 1958 and moved to New York, a new opportunity brought them to Connecticut where they have lived for 55 years.

Ben was a graduate of the University of Maryland. After college, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After serving his country, he went back to the Univ. of Maryland and earned a Master’s Degree in Engineering and went on to receive his Professional Engineer’s License. Ben worked for Combustion Engineering and retired from ABB after 38 years. He was recognized as “Engineer of the Year” from ASME. He was a devoted member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church in Avon.

Many vacations were spent fishing in Maine & Canada, camping in Cape Cod and swimming in Maui. He was an avid sport fan - watching his sons play hockey and his daughter in equestrian events. He also enjoyed a variety of sports on TV. Most of all, spending time with his family was his greatest joy.

In addition to the love of his life of 62 years, he is survived by his children, Ben Love, Jr. and wife Leslie of Windsor Locks, Robert and his wife Christine of Saratoga Springs, NY and Karen Love and her husband John Romig of Cazenovia, NY; his grandchildren, Audrey and Kimberly Love, Rachel Love and Nathan and Mitchell Romig and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Calvert Love, Jr. and Leroy Love.
