Ruth Tuck Dorfman, 94, of West Hartford, CT, wife of the late William B. Dorfman, died peacefully Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at her home with family by her side. She was born July 10, 1926 in New London, CT and she loved to swim and be by the ocean with family. Daughter of the late Louis and Rebecca (Leikind) Tuck, Ruth was a lifelong resident of Connecticut. Ruth was the Salutatorian of her graduating class at Weaver High School and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude from Radcliffe College. She received her Masters Degree from Columbia University and was a beloved teacher at City and Country in NYC. She married her husband Bill in 1960 and moved to Farmington, where they raised their family. A lifelong learner and teacher, she was a true culture vulture of the highest order. Famous for correcting grammar, she was affectionately known as Grammar Ruthie. She was never without a New Yorker, Sunday New York Times and several books (highlighted and annotated) under her arm and was a member and founder of several local discussion groups including the Farmington Library Book Circle, Great Decisions, The League of Women’s Voters and Women in Conversation. Ruth was an accomplished watercolor artist whose work was shown well into her later years. She sang with the Hartford Chorale, continued to take classes of all kinds throughout her life and was an inspiration to many including her amazing caregivers. Karenly, Alethea and Ingrid.

Ruth is survived by her three children, Sarah Daniello (David) of Concord, MA, Peter Dorfman (Lori) of Charlotte, NC and Amy Meehan (Paul) of Farmington, CT and her grandchildren, Alyssa, Ben, Sydney, Tuck and Jack. In addition, she leaves her nieces and nephews and their children whom she cherished.

A memorial service will be held on June 18th at 11:00 in the Tavern at Tunxis Country Club, 87 Town Farm Road in Farmington, CT.
