Obituary for Lucy Southergill

Lucy (Welles) Southergill, 95, of Farmington, wife for 72 years to the late Norman C. "Unk" Southergill, went to join Norman in Heaven Monday, May 17, 2021 at Touchpoints of Farmington. She was born May 25, 1925 in Manchester, daughter of the late Franklin Griswold and Mary (Smith) Welles and had lived in Canton and then on Highland Lake in Winsted for many years. Lucy was the Bookkeeper of her husband's business, Norm's Tire Store in Avon for many years. She was a member of the Collinsville Congregational Church (now Christ Community Church) in Collinsville where she held many positions of leadership including Administrative Assistant to the Minister, and she was appointed Minister of Evangelism and Discipleship. She was also a Girl Scout Leader and a member of the Wapping Grange #30. Lucy enjoyed reading, birding, gardening, nature study, sewing, crocheting, playing golf, water skiing, swimming and dancing. Her grandchildren were treated to many fun, outdoor activities such as "sloppy slurching" through brooks all while they learned about animals, birds and plants as they walked with her. She is survived by her daughter, Noreen Watson and her husband Charlie of Barkhamsted; her son, Jerry Southergill and his wife Ellen of Springfield, TN; her grandchildren, Wendy Moores andher husband Steve of Colchester, John Watson and his wife Erin of Cheshire, Bryan Southergill and his wife Grace of Hong Kong, Adam Southergill and his wife Catherine of Atkinson, NH, John Southergill and his wife Meredith of S. Deerfield, MA and Travis Southergill and his wife Nikki of Franklin, TN; her great grandchildren: Ethan and Ryan Moores (Wendy), Ella, Jack and Delaney Watson (John), Danny and Tommy Watson (Richard), Isabel,Wyatt and Liam Southergill (Bryan), Lucy and Stella Southergill(Adam), Ainsley and Eleanor Southergill (John Southergill), Kylan and Jacey Southergill( Travis), as well as her special niece, Charlene Southergill. She was predeceased by her older siblings, Franklin, Miriam, Helena, Margaret, Esther, Phil and Harry, her grandson, Richard Watson of Manitou Springs, CO and her special friend Cheryl (Kuchta) Clifford. There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be celebrated at 11:00 am on (July 2nd) at Christ Community Church, 7 South Street in Collinsville. Private burial will be in Center Cemetery 993 Main Street, South Windsor (behind the Congregational Church).
