Obituary for Ralph Charles Economu

Ralph Charles Economu, 90, of Avon, beloved husband of Jean (Renchkovsky) Economu, died Saturday, June 12, 2021 at Hartford Hospital. He was born December 6, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late George and Tasia (Kopatas) Economu and had lived in New Jersey prior to moving to Avon over 50 years ago. He was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean War having served in the United States Marine Corps. Ralph was a graduate of Bryant College, Class of 1954, having received his Bachelors Degree in Accounting, with honors. Mr. Economu was a Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for various Fortune 500 companies prior to his retirement in 1982. Ralph enjoyed carpentry, drawing and painting as well as traveling the world (except for the Philippines). Ralph was also an accomplished negotiator who parlayed dreaded trips to the Philippines into all-expense paid wedding anniversaries in Hawaii. But perhaps what Ralph was best known for was his storytelling. He was a great raconteur - and regardless of how many times he told you the same stories over the years, he did so with such flair, it didn’t matter.

In addition to his wife of 65 years, he is survived by his son, Gary Economu of Sterling, VA; his daughters, Stephanie Economu and partner Kathleen Clark of Falls Village and Karyn Economu of Avon; his grandchildren, Alex, Nicole and Ashley; his brother-in-law, Harold Fuller of Newport, RI and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Diana Fuller.

A private graveside service will be held in the State of Connecticut Veterans’ Cemetery in Middletown. Donations in Ralph’s memory may be made to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, 810 Vermont Ave NW, Washington, DC 20571. The Vincent Funeral Home of Canton is caring for the arrangements.
