Obituary for Jessica Schroeder
Jessica Schroeder, aged 30, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. She grew up in Canton, CT, where she attended school. She loved sports and was a member of the State Championship Softball Team.
In addition to her wife, she is survived by her parents Mark and Alison Schroeder, her brother James, her grandmother Carolyn Aho and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Jess earned a Bachelor of Arts from Tulane University and taught in New Orleans for several years. She met her wife Melanie Lee there. Jess and Melanie moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where she continued her teaching career. Jess earned a Master of Education from the University of Utah. She was a National Board Certified Teacher.
Jess was a fierce advocate for teachers, teacher-leaders, and the endeavors of school turnaround work. Jess was also a loyal, trusted friend and and colleague. She loved stories and always sought out the next great song or restaurant. Jess cared deeply about family traditions. She loved her life and spent as much time as possible with the people she loved no matter the miles in between. She had a circle of amazing friends from near and far.
Jess leaves behind an impact to last multiple lifetimes- her laughter could fill a room, her intelligence could solve the world's problems and her generosity was only matched by her tenacity. A true force, Jess will live on in those she loved, taught and led.
At Jess's request, no service will be held. Donations may be made in her memory to cancer related charities.
