Obituary for Cora C. Gagnon
Cora (Cyr) Gagnon, 96, of Simsbury, wife of the late Levite Gagnon, died Thursday, September 9, 2021 at home with her daughter by her side. She was born July 1, 1925 in Keegan, ME, daughter of the late Louis V.F. and Anna (Dufour) Cyr and had lived in Van Buren, ME prior to moving to Simsbury almost 70 years ago. Cora graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Van Buren, ME at the age of 16 and was proud that she studied four years of Latin. Mrs. Gagnon was in customer service for Bank of America for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Simsbury. Cora loved spending time in her perennial flower gardens at both their Simsbury and Harwich Cape Cod homes. She enjoyed a favorite beach spot, where she made many good friends. Cora was a hobby artist: oil painting, basket weaving and many other crafts.
She is survived by her children, Michael Gagnon and his wife Kathleen of Shelton, Suzanne Gagnon Zupin of Simsbury, and her bonus blessing, Amy Cyr of Hermon, ME; her siblings, Germaine Ciriello of Somers, Jeanne Cormier of Somers, Gerard Cyr of Basking Ridge NJ, Lucille Dionne of Grand Isle, ME, Joel Cyr of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Noel Cyr of Manchester; her grandchildren, Jayson Gagnon of Newtown, Keith Gagnon of Mechanicsville, MD, TJ Gagnon Orange, Michelle Gagnon Swartz of Lake Prior, MN, Estelle Gagnon Tomasko of St. Charles, IL, James Gagnon, Jr. of Salt Lake City, UT and Wallace Zupin of Simsbury; her great grandchildren, Nicolas Gagnon, Nadia Gagnon, Laila Gagnon, Barrett Gagnon, Alice Gagnon, Reed Gagnon, Wesley Tomasko, Roselyn Tomasko, Drew Gagnon, Luke Gagnon, Reese Gagnon and many nieces and nephews who all held a special place in Cora’s heart. She will be reunited with her husband of 60 years Levite Gagnon; her son James R. Gagnon, Sr., her parents, Louis V.F. Cyr and Anna Dufour Cyr; her stepmother, Alphonsine Cyr, and her siblings, Elise Levesque, Ernest Cyr, Ludger Cyr, Louis Cyr Jr., Rudolph Cyr, George Emile Cyr, Adhemar Cyr, Peter Cyr, Paul Cyr and J. Henry Cyr.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 16th at St. Mary’s Church, 942 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery. Cora was a very hospitable person and would not want anyone to feel uncomfortable. If you're not able to attend mass, there are many other ways to show Cora you cared for her. Be loving and supportive to each other. Be helpful to someone in need. Protect your faith and family.
