Obituary for Murray A. Weiss

Murray A. Weiss, 88, of Simsbury, beloved husband of Meredith (Lenz) Weiss, died Sunday, September 12, 2021 at McLean. He was born February 2, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA, son of the late David and Sally (Cohen) Weiss, and had lived in New York and New Hampshire prior to moving to Simsbury 16 years ago. Murray was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was an Air Traffic Control Specialist for the FAA, working at the New York Traffic Control Center for many years prior to his retirement. He then went to work for the Washington Consulting Group as an instructor for controllers from the Boston Air Traffic Center.

Murray was a member of parishes in both New York and New Hampshire before moving to West Simsbury and joining St. Catherine of Siena parish. He served in various ministries in all of these parishes. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as both a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. He also was a member of the Board of Directors of Birthright Manchester, NH. He accompanied his wife on visits to bring Communion to residents at McLean Simsbury.

Murray’s greatest love was music. He was a member of the choir in all of the parishes he belonged to during his life. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors at Billingsgate adult community in Simsbury and was a member of the Great Decisions discussion group in that town. Murray enjoyed art and the symphony and was an avid reader, especially of historical books. He enjoyed dog shows and loved to take long walks with his wife and their dogs!
