Obituary for Mary Kuszaj

Mary Catherine Kuszaj, 100, wife of the late Walter John Kuszaj, Sr., died peacefully at home, Monday, September 27, 2021. She was born November 19, 1920 in Hartford, daughter of the late Joseph Andrew and Katherine (Bilas) Ploszaj and had lived in Hartford and Rocky Hill prior to moving to Simsbury 64 years ago. Mrs. Kuszaj worked with her husband at his business, Walter Kuszaj Millwork and had also been employed at Connecticut General, Colli and Wagner and Heritage Real Estate Agencies. A woman of great faith, she was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church as well as the Women’s Club.

Mary loved golf and was a member of several leagues most of her life. She was a volunteer scorer for the Greater Hartford Open and the Honda Classic PGA events. She also supported the LPGA events. She was an avid reader, devoted Red Sox baseball and UConn Women’s basketball fan.

She is survived by her three children, Walter Kuszaj, Jr. of West Suffield; Diane Sommerer and her husband John of Coral Springs, FL and Christine Wall and her husband Dave of Clinton; her brother Stanley Ploszaj of Westbrook, her grandchildren, Pamela Viets, Walter Kuszaj, III, James Sommerer and his wife Diane, John Sommerer and wife Amanda, Paul Sommerer and wife Katherine, Matthew Sommerer and wife Melissa, Constance Wall and Martin Wall; Her Great Grandchildren, Matthew Lefemine, Bethany Lefemine-Ballard and her husband Sean, Christopher Kuszaj, Molly Kuszaj, Dorian Sommerer, Avery Sommerer, Paul Sommerer, Liam Sommerer and Abigail Sommerer and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Walter Ploszaj and Joseph Ploszay and her sister, Sophie Ploszaj.

The family would like to thank the McLean Hospice staff for their amazing support and dedication.

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, October 1st at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Road in West Simsbury. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield.
