Obituary for Lajwanti K. Makhijani

Lajwanti K. Makhijani, 88, of Assonet, Massachusetts passed away Friday December 17, 2021 at Bristol Hospital. She was born on June 21, 1933 in Sultankot, India. She is survived by her sons Kumar Lal Makhijani, Shivaji Makhijani, and Haresh Makhijani and daughters Sushila Ahuja, Sharda Banani, and Khimya Dhingra. She is also survived by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she loved so dearly. Lajwanti was proceeded in death by her husband Kanayalal Makhijani and her youngest son Naresh Makhijani.

In India, Lajwanti and Kanayalal were happily married and raised their kids, instilling values like respect, discipline, and humility from the very beginning. With great courage and hope, Lajwanti then moved to Fall River, Massachusetts in 1984 to start a brand new and better life for her children, filled with endless opportunities to pursue the American dream. She was able to bring most of her children here, who are now very successful with their careers, all thanks to their mother’s hard work and selflessness. Lajwanti worked in the textile industry in Fall River for ten years before her retirement. After her retirement, she would enjoy travelling back to India for a few months to spend time with her friends and family. Later in life, she spent most of her time with her children who lived primarily in the northeast part of the US. Lajwanti devoted her entire life to her family and her spiritual congregation. Her faith was always so strong in God’s will, and she always expressed her gratitude for each moment. She always treated everyone with great respect and wished well for others.

Living a simple life with very little needs, all she wanted was to stay connected to her congregation and to spend quality time with her family and loved ones. She enjoyed reading holy scriptures, watching TV game shows like Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud, and talking to her friends and relatives in India in her spare time. She will always be remembered by how gracious, kind, and faithful she was to God and to those she loved dearly.
