Obituary for Brenden Marcy

Brenden Carl Marcy, 47, of Simsbury, CT, died unexpectedly from complications while diving on vacation with family on April 13, 2022. He was born on April 28, 1974 in Danbury, CT, the beloved son of William Ransom and Constance (Faust) Marcy. Brenden was raised in Brookfield, CT, and lived in both San Diego, CA, and Tampa, FL prior to moving to Simsbury five years ago. He was a graduate of Brookfield High School, Class of 1993, and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Biology in 2004 from San Diego State University.

Brenden was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, trained with the Underwater Demolition Team and was a member of the Naval Special Warfare Medical Service Operations. His Naval career sparked a greater passion for medicine, a deep love for the ocean, and a never-ending bond with his close-knit “Navy Buddies” whom he loved dearly and spoke about often. In Tampa, Brenden served as a Clinical Nurse Supervisor and Advanced Health Care Specialist for Aetna. Most recently, he served as a Lead Nurse for the Surgical Hand Clinic for Hartford Healthcare at the Hospital of Central Connecticut. Brenden’s passion for the ocean translated into his hobbies, including scuba diving, snorkeling, and maintaining an elaborate collection of deep-sea wildlife in saltwater aquariums. His other passions were athletics, weight training, and bestowing on the younger generation a drive to be strong and healthy. Above all, his greatest joy was raising his two amazing children, Sydney and Ransom. Lasting impressions of Brenden are his brawn; quick wit; upbeat, positive energy; hilarious sense of humor; compassion for friends, family and strangers; love for his dogs; unbeatable bear hugs; unending generosity of his time; amazing cooking; elaborate story-telling and in-depth conversations about medicine and the universe.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his treasured children, Sydney and Ransom Marcy and their mother, Jennifer Welker of Simsbury; his brother, Sean Marcy and wife Sara Marcy of North Granby; his sister, Dr. Meagen Marcy McCusker and husband Dr. Michael Payette of Granby. Brenden is known affectionately as “Uncle Bro” to many, especially to his 7 nieces and nephews and “Mr. Incredible” to countless friends, admirers, and colleagues.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 17th from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT.
