Obituary for James W. Cunningham

James W. “Bud” Cunningham, 89, of Simsbury, husband of the late Carol (West) Cunningham, died Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at Hartford Hospital.  Born November 5, 1932 in Boston, MA, he was the beloved son of the late Joseph W. and Mary (Warner) Cunningham. He grew up in West Hartford prior to moving to Simsbury over 50 years ago with his wife and daughters. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Gyatt during the Korean War.  Prior to his retirement, Mr. Cunningham was an owner of Cunningham Supply, Inc. in West Hartford, CT. He was a member of the Church of Saint Ann in Avon where he attended daily Mass.  He loved dinners with his family, walks with his dog, and daily coffee and donuts with his friends at Luke’s. Bud will be remembered as a quiet, faithful, and good-hearted man with a keen sense of humor.

He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Ann and John Ritson of Simsbury, CT and Meg and Jeff Naness of Dix Hills, NY; and his five beloved grandchildren, Abigail, Laura and Matthew Ritson and Jonathan and Michael Naness.  Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his three brothers, Joseph, Jr.,  Richard, and George Cunningham and his two sisters, Patricia Norko and Margaret
Cunningham.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 8th at the Church of Saint Ann, 289 Arch Road in Avon.  Burial will follow in the Simsbury Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Connecticut Chapter, at 200 Executive Blvd., Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489.
