Obituary for Joanne Ritchie (Marks)

Joanne Marks Ritchie, 86, of Canton, wife of the late John Davidson Young Ritchie, died Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Litchfield Woods in Torrington. She was born August 23, 1936 in Hartford, daughter of the late Carlton Case and Evelyn Mildred (Chew) Marks and had lived in Canton for over 40 years. She was a graduate of Hartford High School and Hartford Secretarial School. Prior to her marriage, she was employed by Aetna life and casualty in Hartford where she was a member of the Aetna Club Tennis Team. Mrs. Ritchie was a Medical Secretary for Edward Diters, MD for many years prior to her retirement. She was a member the Cawasa Grange #34 of Collinsville and St. John's Episcopal Church in Pine Meadow where she was honored with the Charlotte Dufour Lifetime Service Award for her ever-fast commitment to the church. In addition to her love of her church, Joanne enjoyed playing bingo and cards with friends and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox.

She is survived by her son, Steven Ritchie of Pleasant Valley; her daughter, Donna Brehm and husband Stephen of Granby; her grandson, Brendan Dean Ritchie of Winchester and her beloved life long friend, the Reverend Salin Low of Canton.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 6th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton. A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 7th at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 51 Church Street in the Pine Meadow section of New Hartford. Private burial will be in Simsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the CT Humane Society at cthumane.org .
