Obituary for Gregory K. Matava

Gregory K. Matava, 50, of Winsted, died suddenly Sunday, August 28, 2022 from injuries sustained in a fall. He was born October 24, 1971 in Hartford, the beloved son of Willi Matava of Collinsville and the late Deborah J. (Babbitt) Matava. During his time serving as an Amunnation Specialist in the Gulf War with the U.S. Army, Gregory was stationed in Germany working at the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Center. After coming home to the states, he lived in Winsted for the past 9 years. He was the Assistant Manager of Town Fair Tire in Torrington. Greg was a member of the Northwest Sportsman Association, the Collinsville Volunteer Fire Department and was a Pyrotechnician and helper with Pyrotecnico, LLC. He enjoyed fishing, shooting sports, Formula 1 racing and cooking.

In addition to his father, Greg leaves his children Justin and Vivien (Matava) Wünschel of Germany; his brother, Willi Matava, II and wife Donna of Bessemer City, NC; his grandson, Derek Wünschel; his niece and nephew, Briana and Landon Matava and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
