Obituary for Gregory Scott Dillworth

Gregory Scott Dillworth, 57, of Windsor Locks, beloved husband of John M. Kupernik, died Saturday, October 1, 2022 at John Dempsey Hospital with John by his side. He was born July 21, 1965 in Chester, PA, son of David Joseph Dillworth of Simsbury and the late Dorothy A. (Hicks) Dillworth and had lived in Connecticut since 1972 where he met John in 1988, getting married in 2010. Greg graduated Simsbury High School in 1983, received a Bachelor of Arts from Marietta College in 1987, a Bachelor of Finance from the University of Hartford and was a veteran rescue swimmer of the U.S. Navy. Greg was a Forensic Accountant and the CFO of Dadanco-Mestek prior to his retirement.

Greg lived a full and rich life combining an inexhaustible curiosity with a love for new experiences. Though Hawaii was his happy place, Greg loved to travel - even taking a final Caribbean cruise in August of this year! You can tell a lot about a person in the way they treat animals and Greg was an animal lover from a very young age, especially his beloved Cocker Spaniels. He even had the opportunity to show Rudy at the Westminster Dog Show! Greg had a passion for antiques and an encyclopedic mind for details, the combination resulting in many, many great finds over the years. Greg lived an active life style with swimming and skiing at the core of his well-being. Greg was a Deadhead, going to many, many Grateful Dead concerts. Greg always had a warm smile, an easy laugh, and an outgoing and affable nature that people were drawn to. He was also incredibly smart and could get to the root of any issue or problem quickly and clearly. He cared deeply for his family and friends and was there for them whenever they needed help.

In addition to his loving partner/husband of 34 years, Greg leaves his father Dave Dillworth and wife Ellen Carson, brother Steve Dillworth and husband Marc Baum, sister Kim Dillworth and husband Gary Hendrickson and brother Drew Dillworth and wife Karen; his nieces and nephews, Christopher and Sarah Ursini and Aaron and Lane Dillworth; his in-laws, Bill Kupernik, Sr. and Karen Kupernik, and his nephews, Will Kupernik, Jr. and Cameron Kupernik. Last but not least Greg leaves his precious Cocker Spaniels Rudy and Katie. All who are knew Greg are devastated at his passing but are richer having had him in their lives. He will be missed, but his memory will live on every day.

Visitation will be held at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Saturday, October 15th from 1 pm to 4 pm closing with a Catholic prayer service at 4 pm. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Windsor Locks on Monday October 17th at 10 am. Donations in his memory may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
