Obituary for Anne Burke Chussil

Anne Stachelek Burke Chussil, passed away peacefully on October 10, 2022, at her home in Simsbury, CT.

She was a dedicated teacher, devoted friend, loving wife, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and matriarch of a large extended group of family and friends.

She was born on June 4, 1931 in New Britain, CT, the 8th child of Joseph & Antonina Stachelek. She lived a rich life, full of heart connections with all who knew her.

She attended Sacred Heart School, New Britain High School, then graduated from Teachers College of Connecticut, now known as CCSU.

Anne was proud of her Polish ancestry. She spoke and sang in this beautiful language, continued cherished holiday traditions, researched the family tree and visited family in Poland many times.

Anne married William E. Burke in 1952 and raised 5 children in Plainville, CT. She taught at Plainville High School from 1964-1997, earning her Master of Education degree along the way. She often spoke of her students fondly.

After marrying Yale Chussil in 1986, Anne lived at the Hampshire House in West Hartford for 35 years where she enjoyed the company of many dear friends. All the while, she most enjoyed creating special memories with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, the light of her life.

The love she held for family and friends was generous and unwavering. Anne will be dearly missed.

She leaves her children, Kim and Bruce McClellan, Patrysha Catucci, Brian and Sally Burke, Bill and Linda Burke, and Lisa Burke. Adored grandchildren, Lauren and Peter Rost, Cody Wagner, Abbey and Greg Gerard, Ethan Burke, Dylan McClellan, and Andrew, Sarah, Kevin, Kayla, Kyle and Nicole Berardinelli. Adored great grandchildren, Liam and Elliot Gerard, Charlie Rose Rost, and Coleson, Keegan and Fiona Belle Berardinelli.

She leaves behind a great many nieces & nephews, with whom she shared a deep friendship; also, other dear friends and one lifelong best friend, Bette Camilleri.
Along with her parents, Anne was preceded by her former husbands and Stachelek siblings, Joseph, Stanley, Chester, Charlotte, Genevieve, Claire, Helen, Teresa and Edward.

A scholarship fund has been created in Anne’s memory for deserving students at Plainville High School.
