Obituary for Marilyn I. Rotondo

Marilyn (Rupinski) Rotondo of Simsbury, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2022 at age 76. She was born in Chattanooga TN, daughter of the late Irene and Waldemar Rupinski, and moved to Simsbury via New Jersey when she was 14. Marilyn attended Hood College and Wheelock College as an undergraduate, and went on to receive a Master’s Degree in Reading Education and later a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Hartford. She ran a private practice as a licensed clinical social worker for nearly 25 years and took pride in having helped many people throughout her career through that and her participation in Simsbury’s juvenile review board. Marilyn had a life-long love of travel, the arts, learning, dogs, and flamingos. She traveled extensively including several trips to Egypt, the American west, and the Galapagos, enjoyed acting in community theater productions, and would remind her children daily when sending them off to school, with great comedic melodrama, to “drink thirstfully from the fountain of knowledge.” She had a fantastic vocabulary which she used to regularly conquer the NYT and Boston Globe crosswords, and maintained that there was no point in even attempting a crossword without knowing the word “ersatz.”

She is survived by her son Andrew and his wife Margaret of Dover NH, her daughter Amanda and her husband Christopher Hayes of Reading MA, and grandchildren Abigail, Jack, and Hannah Hayes.

Visitation will be held at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Monday, November 14th from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM followed by a graveside service, 2:00 PM at the Simsbury Cemetery, 16 Plank Hill Road in Simsbury. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Marilyn’s name to the Theatre Guild of Simsbury
