Obituary for Leola Anneser

Lee Anneser, 90, of Simsbury CT, passed away on February 27, 2023. Born Leola Grace Paine on May 7, 1932, in New York City, she was the only child of the late Eva L. (Garland) and Harold L. Paine of Bay Shore, Long Island, New York. She was also the wife of William H. Cross. Lee was predeceased by the father of her three children, the late Donald J. Anneser.

Lee graduated from Bay Shore High School in 1950, Cortland Teachers College in 1954 cum laude, (was a member of Nu Sigma Chi Sorority) and the University of Connecticut with a master’s degree in Gifted Education. She taught elementary classes for 28 years, mostly in Canton, Connecticut.

Lee was involved in sports and music from an early age. She was taught violin at age six by her father and participated in numerous symphony orchestras throughout her life, including the South Shore Symphony at age 16, the Hartford Civic Symphony in the 1960’s, the Torrington Civic Symphony in the 1970’s and the Farmington Valley Symphony in the 1980’s until recently. Lee also played in many local musicals - including Canton Benefit Productions 1960’s - 70’s and the Simsbury Theater Guild from 1976 - 2000. Lee sang in church choirs since high school. She enjoyed playing the hand bells at Trinity Episcopal Church in Tariffville, as well as singing in the choir. She was a cheerleader for six years in high school. She played golf and tennis for many years.

Playing bridge in women’s groups was a favorite. She was a member of the Simsbury Encore Club, the Women’s Club, the Village for Families and Children, Simsbury Farms Nine Holer’s and the Hideaway Country Club Nine Holer’s in Florida.

Traveling world-wide was another favorite activity having been in over 70 countries as well as in the United States.

Lee is survived by her three sons and their wives, Dean W. Anneser and Susan, Douglas L. Anneser and Allison, Derek D. Anneser and Peggy; eight grandchildren - Dean W. II, Diane, Donald, Mikaela, Luke, Elyssa, Grace, and Scott Anneser; and five great-grandchildren - Eva, Jack, Mikey, Grace, and Maya. She also leaves several cousins in England.

Friends and family may call at Vincent’s Funeral Home in Simsbury, CT on Friday March 10th from 9:30-11:00am closing with a brief service with Rev. Taylor Albright at 11am. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tariffville Trinity Episcopal Church music fund, The Farmington Valley Symphony, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
