Antoinette M. “Toni” Pappalardo, 85, of Avon, wife of the late John Pappalardo, died Monday, March 20, 2023 at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford. She was born September 21, 1937 in Harford, daughter of the late William and Philomena (DiBella) Markette. She was a graduate of Bulkeley High School class of 1955 and St Francis College of Nursing, Class of 1958 as a Registered Nurse.

Mrs. Pappalardo became head nurse at Newington Children's Hospital for several years. An adventurous Toni went on to experience the west coast life in Beverly Hills as a private nurse. She then moved on to become IV nurse at St. Francis hospital from which she retried.

Restless in retirement she joined the Women’s Auxiliary of St. Francis Hospital along with her husband John where they raised funds and awareness to support the hospitals endeavors and made many new friends while she continued to nurse as a substitute in the school system, Toni never stopped nursing.

She enjoyed traveling with close friends and family, shopping for others and finding any reason to celebrate life. Toni was a master organizer and planner especially for the Christmas holiday which for Toni started in August. In her free time, she enjoyed playing tennis, bridge, entertaining and spending time with her grandchildren. Toni’s most cherished times were spent on the beaches of Cape Cod but most of all she loved to be with her family and friends.

She is survived by her two sons, John Pappalardo and his wife Jennifer of Chatham, MA and Mark Pappalardo and his wife Courtney of Connecticut; and her four grandchildren and Tina Merz predeceased sister-in-law. She was predeceased by her sister, Jeanette Milia and her lifelong friend Gertrude Conroy.

Toni’s sons wish to thank the medical team at St. Francis hospital for the excellent care and dignified way they handled a most difficult time. They also wish to thank Dynamic Touch Home Care especially Kareen and Robin for providing love and care for their mother and father during their final years.
