Obituary for Joanne Tuller

Joanne Langevin Tuller, age 82, passed away on Tuesday June 13, 2023. She was born on April 16, 1941 in Winsted, CT to Alexander and Stella (Stupinski) Langevin, formerly of Collinsville, CT. Joanne grew up in Collinsville and attended Canton High School Class of 1959, where she met her future husband, Vernon Tuller. After graduating high school, Joanne became a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines, a job that introduced her to the love of travel. Joanne married Vern in 1964 and began working with him in a bookkeeper capacity when he acquired Avon Hardware & Garden Center in 1966. Vern and Joanne grew this business to be not only the local hub for hardware, paint and garden supplies but also a focal point in the community where friends, families and small business owners came to meet up for quality products and expert advice. Along with Joanne’s friendly smile, “Free coffee for our customers” greeted everyone that walked through the door. While supporting Vern in a successful retail business, Joanne and Vern had built a home in West Simsbury and dedicated their lives to their family of five. Joanne was the ultimate caretaker and provider, working tirelessly at the family business while gleefully planning the next family vacation in the sun. She loved visiting Bermuda, Aruba, St. Maarten and any sun-filled beach location. Joanne will be remembered not only as serving the Farmington Valley community through the hardware store, but as a devoted, loving mother, wife, grandmother, sister, and friend. Joanne had a firecracker personality, beautiful smile and large laugh. She loved to play games and cards with friends and family, she loved to garden, watch her birds, bake for family and friends, color in any type of coloring book, and enjoyed word jumbles galore. She was an award-winning bowler, for over 30 years, at Simsbury Lanes serving as League Secretary for many of those years. Her grandchildren became the focal point of her life and she couldn’t wait for the next holiday when everyone could be together. She adored each one of her grandchildren individually and collectively beyond words.

She is survived by her brother, George Langevin and wife Gilma of Canton, CT, daughter Julie Swick of Middletown, CT and son-in-law Scott Swick of Wallingford, CT, daughter Susan Tuller and fiance Tom Curren of Lincoln, MA, and son Jonathan Tuller and wife, Erin, of Columbia, MO along with 4 grandchildren Mitchell Swick, Jack, Annie and Emma Tuller.

Family and friends are invited to a viewing at Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike, Canton, CT on Monday June 19th from 5:00pm - 7:00pm.
