Obituary for John Mackay

John “Jack” Ames Mackay, 92, of the Weatogue section of Simsbury, beloved husband of June (Hogblom) Mackay, died Monday, September 18, 2023 at his home surrounded by family. He was born August 23, 1931 in Fort Fairfield, ME, son of the late John William and Christine (Ames) Mackay and had lived in Simsbury for over 65 years. Jack was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a graduate of The University of Hartford.
Jack was the Comptroller for the Hartford Division of Emhart Corporation. He was a member of the Simsbury United Methodist Church and the Simsbury Historical Society. Jack enjoyed spending time with family, walking, biking, skiing, tennis, golf and he loved to read.

In addition to his wife of 65 years, Jack is survived by his son, John Mackay and wife Lindsey of Wilton, CT, Julie Salzarulo and husband Dane of Unionville, CT, Joan Cartelli and husband Michael of Dover, NH; his brother, David Mackay and wife Dorothy of Simsbury, CT; his grandchildren, Jack, Kara, Anna, Dylan & Molly; his great grandchildren, Lyla, Logan & Rune; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Stephen Mackay and sister, Sue Mackay Morris.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 29th at the Simsbury United Methodist Church, 799 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Burial will follow in Simsbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Farmington Valley Nurse Association for Hospice Program, 8 Old Mill Lane, Simsbury, CT 06070 or Simsbury Historical Society, 800 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury, CT 06070.
