Obituary for Agnes R. Cuatto

Agnes R. Cuatto, 94, of Avon, CT, wife of the late Raymond R. Cuatto, Sr, died Thursday, October 26, 2023, after a long, debilitating struggle with Alzheimer’s disease. Just like a baby, who enters the world unable to walk or communicate, Agnes exited this world confined to a wheelchair and unable to communicate with others.

Born in Torrington, CT, on May 31, 1929, Agnes graduated from Torrington High School in 1947. The following year she married the love of her life, and they were together for 65 years until Raymond died suddenly in 2013.

Within a year of his death, Agnes started to exhibit signs of memory loss and since February 2015, she has been cared for at an assisted living facility in Avon. It is cruelly ironic that in the last eight years of her life, Agnes, who had been the valedictorian of her high school graduating class, couldn’t remember her own family or even what decade it was. What memories she expressed were mostly of her long-deceased parents and her own childhood.

Agnes is survived by her son, Raymond R. Cuatto, Jr. and his wife, Elisabeth M. Cristofaro, of Burlington, CT, and her daughter, Janice M. Brennan and her husband, Leo F. Brennan, Jr. of Avon, CT. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Christina Cuatto (Timothy Fuir) of Philadelphia, PA; Andrew Cuatto, Arlington, VA; Michael Brennan, Jacksonville, FL; Matthew Brennan (Jeannie), Olympia, WA; Kyle Brennan, Avon, CT; and Kelly Brennan, Boston, MA.

Burial will be private for the family. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations may be made in Agnes’ memory to The Alzheimer’s Association. Please visit her Book of Memories at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online tributes.
