Obituary for Robert Arthur Luff

Robert A. “Pop”, “D”, Luff, 93, passed away on 11/12/2023 at his home in Simsbury.

He was born on September 5, 1930, in Queens, NY. to Ann and Edward Luff.

Robert grew up and went to school in Brooklyn, NY. He shared many fond memories of playing in the streets of Brooklyn as a child. He saw World War 2 happen as a teenager and developed a lifelong interest in the war and aircraft.

Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1951. He served proudly with his artillery unit in the Korean War.

Robert met the love of his life Beverly Zane, and they married in 1962 and had two children. He worked as a draftsman for Kaman Aircraft through the 1970’s. They bought a house with land and built it into a small farm. They enjoyed raising animals and learned hard work ethics, clearing land, gardening and building a barn. In the early 1980’s Robert began working for Hamilton Standard as an Aeronautical Engineer designing test rigs. He worked there until his retirement in 1996.

Many loved ones will cherish Robert’s hand drawn birthday cards and paintings. Always up for a conversation, Robert’s quick wit and clever puns were infectious chatter within the walls of his home.

After retirement Robert enjoyed painting, traveling and golf. His favorite activity was sitting on the deck doing crosswords and viewing the wildlife.

Robert’s final years were spent at home, in the compassionate care of his loved ones, with dignity. He left this world behind surrounded by family, exactly as he had wished, peacefully.

Robert was preceded in death by his wife Beverly, his parents Ann and Edward Luff, his sister Barbara Fletcher, and his brother Edward.

Robert is survived by his daughter Loretta, his granddaughters, Sofia and Ava Carbone. His son Robert, and his daughter-in-law Diane, his devoted caregiver for the past four years and his grandson Robert Daryl.
