Obituary for Patricia Pearce

Patricia Ellen Pearce, aka Tricia or Luna, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at the age of 77. She died peacefully at her residence at McLean Home after living with Alzheimer’s for many years. She was surrounded by family and friends. Tricia was born in Dallas, TX but spent most of her life in the northeast, particularly NJ and CT.

Tricia is a graduate of University of St. Joseph in West Hartford with a degree in Social Work. She also has her Master’s degree from Simmons College in MA. She was very proud of her academic accomplishments which all happened after raising her children.

Tricia lived life to its fullest. She was an accomplished, adventurous, loving, strong woman. She started her career at the Institute of Living as the Volunteer Director and eventually switched to the same position at Hartford Hospital. Some of her key successes in this role were the development of the pet therapy program, of which her two dogs, Muffin and Tito, were legendary members. While at Hartford Hospital, she also created an aftercare bereavement program, a NICU cuddler program with gentle massage for premature infants, as well as co-founding a Reiki volunteer program. She attracted excellent employees, many of which are still in her inner circle. Tricia had a creative mind and spirit. She was a Reiki Master, a labyrinth builder and an author. Her book, Mountain 10 is a collaborative effort and focuses on accessing your own deepest wisdom by accelerating creativity and innovation.

Tricia was also a spiritual woman and was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church for the last 47 years. She held many roles including Church Council President and Sunday School teacher.

Although Tricia had many professional accomplishments, her role as Luna (her self appointed grandma name) far exceeded any other position. She loved to spend time with her five grandchildren and there was always some type of an adventure. Whether it was a trip to the beach, a dinner out, a sleepover or a messy craft project she was always full of energy and ideas.

Tricia is survived by her mother, Edie Pearce of Simsbury, her brother, Paul Pearce of Ramsey, NJ, her daughter Andrea Ficks and husband Paul of Farmington, son Randy Coon of Arlington, VA and her five grandchildren Dylan, Kylee, Noah, Haley and Misha in addition to her many friends and relatives.

We would like to recognize the many special people who assisted on her journey with Alzheimer’s, especially the nurses, staff and hospice team at McLean Home. Their love for her was heartwarming and abundant.

We will celebrate Tricia’s life on Saturday, January 6th at 2:00 PM at St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 224 Lovely Street in Avon. We ask that you wear bright colors and join us to honor Tricia’s remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association by clicking here
