Obituary for Mavis Eileen Lenentine

Mavis Eileen Lenentine, 94, of Simsbury, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023. She was born on May 6, 1929, in New Brunswick, Canada, daughter of the late John W. and Jean (Freeman) Lenentine and survived polio in 1946. Mavis moved to Connecticut in 1952 and then to Simsbury in 1979. She attended Greater Hartford Community College in Hartford where she received her AS in Accounting, Magna Cum Laude in 1979. Mavis was employed by the State of CT for over 24 years for the Dept. of the State Comptroller, then assistant Business Manager, and Principal Accountant in Central Accounting Division. She was a member of the Connecticut Society of Governmental Accounting, 58 Club of Simsbury where she served as a Telephone Chair Board Member, Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church and their Social Ministries Committee. She was a life long advocate for those with disabilities having served on the Connecticut Coalition of Citizens with Disabilities, the Simsbury Handicapped Advocacy Group where she was a Former Vice President, the Polio Support Group for Northern Connecticut and was a panelist at many workshops on disabilities. Mavis enjoyed traveling the world. She drove cross country with three friends from CT to CA stopping at the Grand Canyon.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Lenentine of Glastonbury, CT and Priscilla Lenentine of Lodi WI; her nieces and nephews, Debra Gratton (Raymond) of East Hartford, CT, Judith McNally of Enfield, Roger Lenentine (Susan) of Denver, NC, Deborah Dionne (Steven) of Lodi, WI, Diane Clancy (Regan) of Coventry, CT, David Black (Linda) of Coventry, CT, and Debra Plank (Gary) of Manchester, CT; numerous great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Frank and Ervin Lenentine and her sister Dawn (Lenentine) Black.

Services will be held at the Vincent Funeral Home, 880 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury on Friday, January 19th with visitation starting at 12:00 PM, closing with a celebration of her life at 1:00 PM.To view the livestream of the serivce, please click HERE
