Obituary for Helen Mary Nye

Helen M. Nye, 91, of Barkhamsted, died Friday, January 12, 2024 at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. She was born February 25, 1932 in Whately, MA, daughter of the late Victor Lawrence and Hattie (Brehm) Zononi and had lived in Barkhamsted for over 23 years. Mrs. Nye worked for Allstate Insurance Company for 40 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of First Church of Winsted, serving as a Deacon and a Treasurer for many years. Helen’s 3 greatest enjoyments in life were her gardening, the Red Sox, and her family. From April to August, you could find Helen in her garden or at a nursery buying new flowers. She faithfully watched every Red Sox game, though admitted that she often took her best naps during the games. Helen loved spending time with her family and traveling and camping.

She is survived by her daughter, Caryl Pizinger of Barkhamsted; her sister, Carolyn Christensen of the Villages, FL; her grandchildren, Brianna Bender and husband David of Torrington and Tamsin Lauzier and husband Tyler of Granby; her great grandchildren, Nathaniel and Alexander Bender and Finn and Emmett Lauzier; her extended family Frank N. Sollitto, Jr.; her sister-in-law Claire Zononi of Easthampton, MA and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Charles, Ralph, Victor and Lawrence Zononi and a sister, Leona Pakutinski.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 27th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Vincent Funeral Home, 120 Albany Turnpike in Canton. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The American Cancer Society. Please visit Helen’s “Book of Memories” at www.vincentfuneralhome.com for online tributes.
