Obituary for Shirley Jenne (Rood)

Shirley E. (Rood) Jenne of Avon, CT, passed away on March 19, 2024 at age 100. Shirley was the eldest of two children born to Marion and Lester Rood of Holyoke, MA. She was a longtime resident of Avon where she and her husband of 52 years, Arthur F. Jenne, lived until his death in 1998. Shirley remained an Avon resident until 2016.
Shirley graduated from Hartford Hospital School of Nursing and was in the nursing field for her entire career. She worked at Hartford Hospital, and private doctor’s offices prior to joining the Brightview Convalescent Home staff where she became the Administrator of Nursing and remained there until she retired.

She was a member of Avon Congregational Church and was very active in the Women’s Fellowship Group in the early years. Shirley was also a volunteer for over 25 years at the FAVARH Thrift Shop in Canton, CT, an organization which was started to support children with disabilities. She was a 25 plus year member and past president and treasurer of the Acorn Button Club as well as a member of the Connecticut Button Club.

Shirley leaves four daughters, Marilyn J. Lewis, Linda J. Marr (Denny), Gale MJ Boisvert (Lester), and Elaine Chamberlain (Steve); ten grandchildren, Kelly Harrigan (Joe), Katie Bordeau (Brad), Jennifer Marr Bell (Len), Ethan Boisvert, Tyson Boisvert (Ethelyn), Devin Boisvert (Jessica), Tierney McGrath (Kieran), Daren Boisvert (Joyce), Wendy Cipollo (Tom) and Bill Roman (Sara); and 19 great grandchildren Jailyn, Joe and Jase Harrigan, Greyson, Pemberley and Callen Bordeau, Micah, Eliana, Sawyer, Scarlett, Mackenzie and Isabella Boisvert, Killian, Donnacha and Ruairi McGrath, Chase Cipollo and Haley, Aubrey and Jacob Roman. Shirley was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law Ken and Eleanor Rood. She leaves her only nephew, David Rood (Judy).

The family thanks the Chatfield staff for the wonderful care and support of their mother during her 4 year stay.

There are no calling hours. A private service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations can be made in Shirley’s name to FAVARAH 225 Commerce Drive, Canton, CT 06019.
