Obituary for Andrew Maynard "Mike" Yakemore

Andrew Maynard “Mike” Yakemore, 81, of West Simsbury, died on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at home. Andrew was born in Bangor, Maine on December 11, 1929. He lived on a small farm in Central Maine attending a one room school house with nine grades. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1952 with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. Prior to starting his own business of Real Estate Development in 1975, he was employed in the aerospace industry and companies including Eastman Kodak and Raytheon. A resident of West Simsbury since 1966 and most recently River Ridge at Avon, he is predeceased by his wife Edith Arvene, a loving and caring partner for 60 years. They were together in first grade and then again in high school. He was also predeceased by a 16 year old son, Jeffrey in 1974. Surviving is son Michael L. Yakemore and daughter Jeanine L. Christensen and her husband Nord E. Christensen, all of Simsbury and three grandchildren, Lisa A. Mayer and her husband Ryan of Lebanon, OH, Ashley R. Decker and her husband Chad of Bear, DE, and Ryan A. Christensen of Salem, MA. Mike never forgot his “roots” or the many blessings along the way. He would like to be remembered for his conversation, the need to recycle, and the pleasure of helping others less fortunate. There will be no calling hours. A service for the celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Friday, August 12th, 1:00 PM at the First Church of Christ, 689 Hopmeadow Street, Simsbury. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Simsbury Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, CT Chapter, 306 Industrial Park Rd.
