Obituary for
Edward Lee Storrs
Passed away peacefully on April 16th at the age of 84. He was the son of Margery Steele and William Huntington Storrs. Born at Hartford Hospital February 15, 1933, Ted grew up in West Hartford. He attended Sedgwick School, the Loomis Chaffee School, class of 1951, and Dartmouth College, class of 1955. He was a class agent for Loomis, was an active member of the Dartmouth Club of Hartford and always enjoyed interviewing prospective Dartmouth students in the Hartford area. He served two years in the United States Army and then went to work for CIGNA in their Pension Retirement Department After 10 years, he moved to become the Director of the Pension and Retirement Department at United Technologies. He leaves his loving wife of 59 years Margaret O’Meara Storrs and their three children Edward Lee Storrs Jr, Deborah Storrs Broda, and Kristen Storrs DeLaMater; in addition, their spouses, Mary Zaylor Storrs, Frederick Broda, Jr., and Robert DeLaMater. He also leaves behind his seven grandchildren who affectionately called him Poppy: Edward Lee Storrs III, Frederick Charles Broda III & Samuel Huntington Broda, William Dean, Philip Pease, Maxwell Storrs and Margaret Griffin DeLaMater. Ted is survived by his sister, Ann Storrs Kellogg and her husband, William Kellogg, and by innumerable close friends.
Ted loved helping others and volunteered regularly. He was President of the Spring Grove Cemetery where his parents, grandparents and relatives are buried, Treasurer of the O'Meara Scholarship Foundation, delivered books to the homebound for the Simsbury Public Library, volunteered his time and hosted students at ABC (A Better Chance) in Simsbury CT, volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America, and was treasurer of Simsbury Crew when his children were on the crew team. Not only was Ted a gifted athlete, he loved rooting for his favorite teams. He played basketball at Sedgwick School, ran track at Loomis and Dartmouth-setting several track records, was a National Ski Patroller at Ski Sundown, past President of Hopbrook Tennis and Paddle Club and spent many summers at Black Point Beach where he sailed out of Niantic Bay Yacht Club. He will be sorrowfully missed by all who knew him. We will remember this humble, happy, unflappable man who always put others first.
There will be a celebration of his life and reception on Sunday, April 30th at 12:30 at Riverview, 10 Winslow Place, Simsbury (Weatogue), CT. Burial will be private. Vincent’s Funeral Home in Simsbury will be handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the O'Meara Scholarship Foundation, Inc., which gives scholarship money to those in need in the greater Hartford area, P.O.
